COURTHOUSE TOURS
Discovering Justice offers public tours of two distinctly different halls of justice: The John Joseph Moakley U.S. Courthouse and the John Adams Courthouse. Each year, Discovering Justice brings thousands of people into the courthouses to learn and experience first-hand how the justice system works and how civic space can reflect the principles of democracy and justice.
The John Joseph Moakley U.S. Courthouse is a modern building located on a spectacular South Boston waterfront site, while the John Adams Courthouse is an antique architectural gem located close to the State House.
Tours introduce visitors to the history, art, and architecture of the buildings and include information about the court system. Tours are led by knowledgeable volunteer docents (tour guides), a diverse group of lawyers, retired teachers and experienced museum guides. All have completed training and continue to attend sessions on art, civic education, and the court system.
Tours are free of charge, available to public groups and individuals, recommended for ages ten and above. Reservations must be made in advance, with the exception of summer walk-in tours. Both buildings are ADA accessible.
